4-track collection marks Beach’s first release of new music since 2020’s DoubleLife EP
Christian Beach, a longtime fixture of the New Jersey music scene, today announced a release date for his new EP, Direct and Free, and posted a video for the previously released single “Richard Bandler,” which is now widely available on most streaming/download platforms at ChristianBeach.net.
Direct and Free will be released Feb. 25, 2022. The 4-song collection marks Beach’s first release of completely new material since 2020’s DoubleLife EP. Basement Noise, an album consisting mostly of demos of unreleased material recorded between 2009 and 2019, was released in January 2021.
“With a bass guitar in the repair shop, and a home studio makeover that made tracking acoustic drums impossible, I embraced synthetic textures with my folk tendencies to create a small body of work inspired by unconscious thought and emotions, and how we relate to each other on a human level,” said Beach about the EP. “The underdog, poverty, addiction, love, maturity, and the desire to be understood play prominent roles in these songs.”
Direct and Free Track List:
- “Someone Else’s Dream” (2:45)
- “Richard Bandler” (3:49)
- “Mystery of Love” (4:01)
- “Clean Livin’” (4:04)
The video for “Richard Bandler” was another homemade effort remotely produced with the assistance of frequent collaborator Brian Kelley.
“I wanted to lean into the psychology theme of the song and use a lot of abstract imagery,” said Beach. “There was a pattern to the visuals Brian assembled, but plugging my bits in kind of disrupted the system, so to speak, which was essentially what we were going for.”
